Molestation in Jehanabad

As the clip created a furore, the Bihar Police have arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in the case. "Four people have been arrested in connection with the case. Faces of two people have been matched with people in the video and the other two were making the clip.Other four-five people have been named by them. Khan had on Sunday constituted a special investigation team to investigate the matter. The video, which has gone viral, shows the youth molesting, dragging and undressing the victim while lifting her off. The girl, who looked completely shattered, is heard screaming and pleading before the youth. The Town police station in Jehanabad has registered an FIR against unknown persons based on the registration number of a bike, which could be spotted in the video. According to News18, the Bihar Police have traced the bike to Sihati village, which is in Bhelavar area. However, the owner seemingly has been staying in Patna for the last three years, reported the channel. The SIT will be led by Jehanabad SP Maneesh. SHO of Town police station SK Singh said: "The FIR has been lodged under Section 376 (rape) and 511 (punishment for offences punishable with life or other imprisonments) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 8 (sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012." He added that faces of seven youth were noticeable in the shocking clip. "One of the youths could be seen holding the girl. However, he was not resisting the attempts of the youths to assault the girl," the SHO said. Her pitiable state reflects the power these men had over her at that time. It showcases a sick state of affair for the safety of women in a country which makes up 1/6th of humanity. India has a sex ratio of 933 to 1000 men. Crimes against women have seen a rise and so has lawlessness. Attacks on women and girls will continue to shame Indian men globally.

The Indian government must act and must act fast so that justice is served. The recent attack on an 8-year-old girl in North India had the global community focussing its eyes on India on the safety of women. That attack in North India was a communal one and it is still unknown if there are any communal overtones to this attack.
