Ambulances rushed to the rescue after at least 60 people were killed and 200 were injured in a train tragedy during the Dussehra festivities near Amritsar in India's northern Punjab state on Friday.

Footage shows people crowded at the site of the tragedy after the collision, with some surrounding the victims and checking if they are alive.

The train, traveling from Jalandhar to Amritsar, reportedly hit a crowd of revellers who were standing on the railway tracks watching the celebrations. According to reports, the victims did not hear the approaching train as they were watching an effigy of demon king Ravana, stuffed with firecrackers, burning.
