Cell-based shrimp startup Shiok Meats nets $4.6M in funding

- Dive Brief: Singapore-based Shiok Meats, a cell-cultured shrimp startup, has raised $4.6 million in a seed funding round led by investors like Monde Nissin Corp. CEO Henry Soesanto, Y Combinator and Tyson Foods-backed Big Idea Ventures, The Spoon reported .
- They hope to scale production in two to three years and have the company's cell-based products available around the world, with a goal of disrupting the $40 billion shrimp market.
- Shiok, which means "delicious" in Singapore and Malay slang, is developing shrimp, crab and lobster products by using stem cells taken from the crustaceans and feeding the cells a nutrient mix.
