Bobi, the world's oldest dog, has sadly passed away at the age of 31 in Portugal. Owner Leonel Costa announced the news on Monday, stating that Bobi died in a veterinary hospital over the weekend. Bobi, a Portuguese Rafeiro do Alentejo, outlived every other dog in history and held the Guinness World Record for being the oldest dog ever verified. The previous record was held since 1939 by an Australian cattle dog who lived to be 29 years and five months old.

Despite his extraordinary age, Bobi's 11,478 days on Earth were not enough for those who loved him. Veterinarian Karen Becker, who had the opportunity to meet Bobi, expressed her condolences and said, "Godspeed, Bobi." Bobi lived his entire life in the village of Conqueiros in central Portugal. Costa believes that his longevity can be attributed to factors such as the fresh countryside air and the affection he received from his loved ones.

Costa also revealed that Bobi was never kept on a leash and enjoyed a diet of human food. "Bobi eats what we eat," Costa explained. His freedom and nourishment might have played a role in his exceptional lifespan. Guinness World Records expressed their sadness about Bobi's passing and acknowledged the special bond he had with his owners.

Over 100 people attended Bobi's 31st birthday party earlier this year, a testament to the love and admiration he received. Bobi's story is truly miraculous, and his presence will be sorely missed. He was not only a remarkable record-holder but also a beloved companion who brought joy to those around him. His legacy will live on as a reminder of the remarkable bond between humans and their canine friends.
