In the midst of escalating tensions between Iran and Pakistan, the United States has avoided responding to questions about whether either country consulted with Washington before conducting retaliatory strikes. US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller declined to disclose any specific conversations, but he did express concern about the situation and urged restraint on all sides. The conflict began when Iran launched strikes on a terrorist group opposed to Tehran in Pakistan, which prompted Pakistan to retaliate with missile strikes into Iran. The US has been closely monitoring the situation and emphasizes the need to prevent further escalation between the two well-armed nations.

The US also condemned the strikes and labeled the Houthi group in Yemen as a terrorist organization after they targeted commercial ships in the Red Sea. Miller affirmed that the US does not want to see the conflict escalate and emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security in the Middle East. The US is focused on protecting its personnel in foreign lands and is working to prevent further destabilization in the region.

The White House National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications, John Kirby, echoed Miller's sentiments, emphasizing the need to prevent escalation and maintain open communication with Pakistani officials. The international community, including the US and the United Nations, has called for restraint as tensions between Iran and Pakistan continue to rise.
