US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo emphasized the importance of holding talks with Beijing officials, stating that it is not a sign of weakness by Washington. In an interview with CNN's State of the Union, Raimondo highlighted the mutual interest of both countries and the world in maintaining a stable and significant commercial relationship between the US and China.
During her recent visit to Beijing, she discussed various issues including hacking allegations and the need to build trust. Raimondo made it clear that the US is not naïve to China's actions and is ready to use tools such as export controls, outbound investment, screening, tariffs, and countervailing duties if necessary. Despite facing challenges such as trade disputes and China's presence in the South China Sea, Raimondo stressed the importance of communication to prevent tensions and misunderstandings between the two nations.
