US and India Launch RETAP: Accelerating Renewable Energy Technologies for a Greener Future
The United States Department of Energy and India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy have launched the US-India Renewable Energy Technology Action Platform (RETAP) to accelerate the development and deployment of renewable energy technologies. The collaboration aims to strengthen cooperation in the clean energy sector between the US and India.
In a significant step towards achieving a greener future, the United States Department of Energy (DOE) and India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) have launched the US-India Renewable Energy Technology Action Platform (RETAP). This collaborative platform was announced during a meeting between US President Joe Biden and India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington D.C. in June 2023. The main aim of RETAP is to accelerate the development and deployment of new and emerging renewable energy technologies.
Under the Strategic Clean Energy Partnership, @ENERGY and @MNRE held a meeting on Aug 29, 2023, to launch the U.S.-India Renewable Energy Technology Action Platform (RETAP). This visionary initiative was announced by Hon'ble PM @narendramodi and US President @JoeBiden...

RETAP, led by US DOE Deputy Secretary David Turk and MNRE Secretary Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, is a result-oriented and time-bound initiative with a strong focus on technology. In its initial phase, RETAP will concentrate on green and clean hydrogen, wind energy, long-duration energy storage, and explore opportunities in geothermal energy, ocean/tidal energy, and other emerging technologies. The collaboration blueprint for RETAP includes five overarching themes: research and development, piloting and testing of innovative technologies, advanced training and skill development, policy and planning for advancing renewable energy technologies, and investment, incubation, and outreach programs.
During the meeting, both parties shared insights into the latest technological developments in their respective countries, including hydrogen, energy storage, wind, geothermal energy, marine renewable energy, and clean energy deployment programs. Looking ahead, DOE and MNRE intend to strengthen RETAP collaboration by potentially establishing a RETAP Steering Committee, forming joint working groups, and fostering collaboration among subject matter experts. This launch of RETAP marks a significant step towards increasing cooperation between the US and India in the clean energy sector. By harnessing the potential of renewable energy technologies, both countries aim to accelerate their clean energy transition and contribute to global sustainability efforts.
