Mumbai terror attack mastermind, Hafiz Saeed, who is also the chief of the outlawed Jamat-ud-Dawah, is currently in Pakistani custody serving a 78-year imprisonment sentence as a result of his conviction in seven terror financing cases, the United Nations has confirmed. The UN Security Council's 1267 Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee has designated Saeed as a global terrorist and has also amended its entry to reflect his imprisonment since February 12, 2020. India has previously requested Pakistan to extradite Saeed, who is wanted by Indian investigative agencies in connection to several terror cases.

Additionally, the Sanctions Committee has also noted the confirmed death of Hafiz Abdul Salam Bhuttavi, a founding member of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Saeed's deputy, who passed away in prison in May last year while serving a sentence for terror financing. This development comes as part of the Committee's recent amendments to its list of individuals and entities subject to asset freeze, travel ban, and arms embargo.
