Ukrainian Air Force Intercept 36 Russian Cruise Missiles in Bold Counterattack
The Ukrainian Air Force intercepts 36 cruise missiles fired by Russia, successfully destroying them. President Zelensky commends the air force for their bravery in protecting Ukraine from escalation.
In a new wave of attacks, the Ukrainian Air Force reported intercepting 36 cruise missiles fired by Russia. Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk made the announcement on the air force's official Telegram channel, stating that the enemy cruise missiles were successfully destroyed on July 26.
However, he did not specify whether the Russian missiles had hit their intended targets. According to the Ukrainian air force, Ukrainian forces intercepted three Kalibr missiles during an initial series of strikes in the afternoon, followed by the successful interception of 33 X-101 and X-555 missiles in the early evening. The missiles were launched by eight Tu-95 bombers from the southeast, heading towards western Ukraine.
The air force also mentioned another Russian strike on Wednesday evening, this time targeting the Khmelnytsky region in western Ukraine, an area that has already been repeatedly targeted by Moscow. Information about this specific strike, carried out by MiG-31s that launched four hypersonic Kinjal missiles, is currently being clarified.
However, it was noted that these missiles were particularly difficult to intercept. In the Dnipro central region of Ukraine, the debris from a downed Russian missile caused a fire. Fortunately, the fire was quickly brought under control without causing any casualties, as reported by the governor on Telegram.
In response to the attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude towards the air force for successfully shooting down the majority of the missiles. He emphasized the importance of protecting the Ukrainian sky and praised the bravery and dedication of the air force personnel.
Over the past two weeks, Russia has escalated its bombing of Ukrainian cities, with a particular focus on targeting the key port of Odesa on the Black Sea. The situation remains tense as Ukraine continues to defend itself against these acts of aggression.
