In a bold and daring move, Ukrainian sea drones launched an attack on a major naval base in Russia, damaging a Russian warship in the Black Sea. This incident has further escalated tensions in the region, particularly amid a dispute over grain exports.

According to sources, the attack occurred near the port of Novorossiysk, a significant hub for Russian exports. The Ukrainian drones successfully hit the Russian ship, Olenegorsky Gornyak, which suffered a serious breach. Footage of the incident shows the unmanned sea drone approaching the ship before the feed cuts out upon impact. It is reported that the drone was carrying 450kg (992lb) of dynamite.

Despite Russia's defense ministry denying any damage in its report, Ukrainian sources claim that the attack left the warship in a damaged state. This strike showcases Ukraine's ambitious efforts to develop long-range unmanned attack vehicles, both at sea and in the air.

The ability to target Russian surface ships and port infrastructure in the Black Sea demonstrates the vulnerability of these assets to fast and stealthy weapons. The attack on Novorossiysk comes in the midst of increased clashes in the sea, following Russia's abandonment of a UN deal regarding grain exports between Russia and Ukraine.

Ukrainian ports have been targeted by Russian drones, prompting a retaliatory response from Ukraine. This incident signifies the effectiveness of Ukraine's sea drones and their potential to disrupt Russia's maritime and military influence in the Black Sea. The attack serves as a warning to Russia and highlights the changing dynamics of naval warfare.
