UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly has strongly condemned any direct attacks on the Indian High Commission in London, calling them “completely unacceptable.” His remarks follow reports of threats and attacks targeting Indian diplomatic missions in the US, Australia, Canada and the UK, as well as the emergence of posters online featuring images of Indian High Commissioner to the UK Vikram Doraiswami and Dr Shashank Vikram, the Consul General of India in Birmingham. The incident in March sparked a major security concern in the UK.

Since then, the Metropolitan Police have maintained a visible presence at India House in central London. Recently, there have been similar reports of violence in the US and Canada, where pro-Khalistan leaders released a poster labelling Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma and Consul General of India in Toronto Apoorva Srivastava as assassins of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The UK government has been vocal in its condemnation of the attacks against Indian diplomatic missions, expressing deep concern over the safety of Indian High Commission and its staff.

Speaking on the issue, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly reiterated the UK’s strong stance against any direct attacks on the Indian High Commission in London, adding that the safety of staff at the High Commission is of “paramount” importance.

The Indian government has expressed gratitude for the UK’s stance on the matter, thanking the British government for its prompt action in ensuring the safety of its diplomatic mission and personnel.
