Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his support for India's bid for a permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). He stated that his nation would be proud if India became a full member of the UNSC.

Erdogan emphasized that the world is larger than the five permanent members of the Security Council and proposed a rotational system that would give every member country of the United Nations an opportunity to be a member of the Security Council. He argued that the voices of all 195 member countries should be heard and that the Security Council should not be limited to just the five permanent members.

During a bilateral meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Erdogan on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, both leaders discussed ways to strengthen trade relations and enhance connectivity and infrastructure. Erdogan identified India as Turkey's greatest trade partner in South Asia and expressed the potential for deepening economic and commercial ties between the two nations.

He thanked India for its hospitality during his visit to the country. The endorsement from President Erdogan comes despite past friction in bilateral ties due to Turkey's support for Pakistan on the Kashmir issue. However, Erdogan's remarks suggest a more conciliatory approach, indicating a shift in Turkey's stance on the matter.

The discussions between the two leaders reflected a mutual desire to promote cooperation and strengthen ties in various sectors.
