Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has reached out to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, urging Washington to use its influence over Israel to put a stop to the ongoing attacks on Gaza and the West Bank. Fidan emphasized the deteriorating situation in Gaza and stressed the need for Israel to engage in discussions for a two-state solution after a complete ceasefire is achieved. In addition to this, the two diplomats also discussed Sweden's Nato membership bid as well as Turkey's request to purchase F-16 fighter jets from the United States.

These developments come amidst increasing pressure on Israel from its allies, including the United Kingdom and Germany, for a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza. UK Foreign Minister David Cameron and German counterpart Annalena Baerbock have called for urgent action to bring an end to the conflict, raising concerns over the civilian casualties and demanding a swift but sustainable resolution. The United Nations General Assembly also issued a demand for a ceasefire in Gaza, with the UK abstaining from the vote. The war in Gaza began after Hamas militants launched an attack on Israel, prompting the Israeli government to launch an offensive. This situation has sparked international concern and calls for peaceful resolution.
