Turkey Takes a Stand: Coca Cola and Nestle Products Removed from Restaurants in Response to Support for Israel

Turkey's parliament has taken the decision to remove Coca Cola and Nestle products from its restaurants in response to their alleged support for Israel during the conflict in Gaza. The decision, made by parliament speaker Numan Kurtulmus, comes as a result of public demand and aims to boycott companies that endorse Israel. Coca-Cola beverages and Nestle instant coffee were the only brands affected by this decision.

Turkish activists have been using social media to call for a boycott of Israeli goods as well as Western companies that show support for Israel. The Turkish government has strongly criticized Israel's bombardment of Gaza and Western backing for Jerusalem. Trade between Turkey and Israel has also plummeted since the start of the war compared to last year.

In the face of Israel's sustained bombing of civilians in the Gaza Strip, Turkey has recalled its ambassador and expressed concerns over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza. Israeli diplomats had previously left Turkey due to security concerns following pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the country. Israel's assault on Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 10,000 Palestinians, including 4,100 children. Numerous protests have taken place both on the streets and on social media platforms.
