Thirty-three people have tragically lost their lives and 16 others have been injured in a series of traffic crashes in eastern Afghanistan, authorities confirmed on Sunday. The collisions occurred in the Sorabi district of Kabul province, along the main highway connecting the Afghan capital, Kabul, and the eastern Nangarhar province. According to Khalid Zadran, spokesman for the Kabul police chief, a total of 10 collisions took place in the Sorabi district, resulting in the deaths of 17 people, including two children and four women.

Additionally, 10 individuals sustained injuries and were subsequently hospitalized for treatment. In a separate statement, the Laghman police chief reported four additional collisions in the eastern Laghman province near the end of the same highway, leading to the deaths of 15 people. One person was also killed, and six others were injured in other parts of Laghman province.

Those injured were transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment. The high number of traffic crashes in Afghanistan is primarily attributed to poor road conditions and the carelessness of drivers on highways. While road safety measures are being advocated for to prevent such tragedies, these recent incidents serve as a reminder of the urgent need for improved infrastructure and enhanced driving practices to ensure the safety of all road users in the country.
