On June 28th, tragedy struck the Wrens city of Georgia when a 36-year-old Indian-origin store clerk, Mandeep Singh, was shot dead during an apparent case of armed robbery. Singh, a clerk at the Wrens convenience store, had been working at the store for less than one month. According to the Wrens Police Chief John Maynard, two 15-year-olds entered the store and fired twice at Singh, killing him at the scene. The two juveniles were not wearing masks or obscuring their faces during the incident, making their identification and arrest easier.
To provide further insight into the case, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office have confirmed that Singh’s body is being transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab. Chief Maynard also mentioned that they are “following up on other leads as to why this took place”. Singh was the sole support of his mother and wife and to help his family cope with expenses, such as funeral costs and ongoing living expenses, a GoFundMe fundraiser was set up for him. The fundraiser described Singh as a “genuine soul with an unforgettable personality” and requested donations to help his family deal with his death.
The unexpected and tragic death of Mandeep Singh is a reminder of the immense dangers that come with being employed as a store clerk, and the importance of taking all necessary precautions when working such jobs. While the two juveniles who perpetrated the crime have already been identified and arrested, it is important to remember that Singh’s family is still in need of financial assistance as they cope with his death. Although nothing can replace the life of Mandeep Singh, it is hoped that his family can be provided with the comfort and support they need to move forward.
