Tensions between China and the US Flare Over Dalai Lama Meeting in New Delhi Tensions between China and the United States have been escalating over the meeting between Joe Biden Administration’s top official on human rights, Uzra Zeya, and Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama in New Delhi.

Beijing has firmly opposed the meeting and asked Washington to stop meddling in the internal affairs of China under the pretext of Tibet-related issues.

The Chinese Embassy in India has stated that the designation of Uzra Zeya as Special Coordinator for Tibet issues is "pure offence" and a political manipulation to "interfere in China's internal affairs" and "undermine Tibet's development and stability".

China has also firmly opposed the US official's meeting with the Dalai Lama and called it "anti-China separatist activities". US Special Coordinator for Tibetan Issues Uzra Zeya is on a 7-day visit to two nations -- India and Bangladesh-- from July 8-14.

She is expected to meet with senior government officials to discuss the deepening and enduring US-India partnership, including advancing shared solutions to global challenges, democracy, regional stability, and cooperation on humanitarian relief.

The current crisis between the US and China over Tibet-related issues is a reflection of the geopolitical tensions between the two countries. The US State Department in its statement has made it clear that it is committed to the preservation of Tibet’s unique religious, cultural, and linguistic traditions and will continue to monitor the human rights situation in the region.

In the current scenario, it is important for all the involved parties to handle the situation with care and work towards a diplomatic resolution. It is also important for the US to ensure that its actions do not further escalate the tensions between the two countries.

Moreover, it is also essential for China to ensure that it continues its commitment to preserve Tibet’s unique religious, cultural, and linguistic traditions.
