Taiwan's defence ministry has announced that it has not observed any large-scale exercises or other military action by China near the island. This comes after China condemned a brief U.S. visit by Taiwan Vice President William Lai, labeling him as a separatist and troublemaker.

Chinese officials have expressed intentions to protect their sovereignty and have previously used military drills as a means to intimidate voters ahead of Taiwan's upcoming election. However, Taiwan's defence ministry spokesperson stated that they have not witnessed any significant drills or actions by China's military at this time.

Despite this, Taiwan remains vigilant and committed to its war preparedness. Meanwhile, China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson has reiterated that China will take resolute measures to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity without elaborating further.

In the past, China has frequently conducted military incursions into Taiwan's air defense zone in an attempt to pressure Taipei into accepting Chinese sovereignty. It is worth noting that Lai is expected to return to Taipei via San Francisco on Friday, and both Taiwan and the United States have emphasized that these transits are routine, aiming to keep them low-key.

Taiwan's Premier also called for a calm response from China to Lai's U.S. visit, stating that such transits have been occurring for many years and there is no need for China to provoke without reason. The tension between China and Taiwan has been a long-standing issue, with China claiming Taiwan as its territory and vowing to take it by force if necessary.
