Sri Lanka is looking to India, its primary source market, to help boost foreign exchange earnings and aid economic recovery. The 67th convention of the Travel Agents Association of India is being hosted in Colombo, with President Ranil Wickremesinghe calling for a collaborative regional effort to promote tourism.

As of May 2021, the tourism industry has brought in $3.5 billion into the island, with India consistently topping the charts for tourist arrivals.

Air China has also restored service between Colombo and Chengdu, with more Chennai-Jaffna flights proposed to increase the frequency to five days a week.
