Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his support for Iraq's sovereignty and stability during his visit to Baghdad. This visit included a meeting with Spanish troops stationed in Iraq as part of an international coalition and NATO's mission. Sanchez emphasized Spain's commitment to the unity, sovereignty, and stability of Iraq, while also acknowledging the country's efforts in fighting terrorism. In a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani, Sanchez reaffirmed Spain's dedication to multilateralism and its support for Iraq's development.

The visit comes at a time when the region is facing increased tensions due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas, leading to various attacks and military actions. In a separate incident, Israeli air strikes hit southern Syria, targeting areas near the capital Damascus and Syrian air defense positions in Sweida province. The strikes also targeted Damascus international airport, which had recently resumed flights. Israel has launched numerous air strikes on Syria since 2011, primarily targeting Iran-backed forces and Syrian army positions.

The attacks have intensified in the wake of the conflict between Israel and Hamas. The latest attacks on Syria have raised concerns about the escalating tensions in the region, with the Syrian defense ministry reporting no casualties as a result of the strikes. The conflict and military actions in the region continue to affect stability and security, prompting countries like Spain to express their support for multilateralism and the sovereignty of nations.
