South Korean police have detained a suspect for the stabbing of a high school teacher in Daejeon. This incident comes just a day after a separate random attack in Seongnam, where 14 people were wounded near a subway station.

The suspect in the Daejeon attack has been described as a man in his late 20s. According to officials, the suspect waited for the teacher to step out of a classroom before stabbing him and fleeing. The motive behind the attack is still unknown. In the previous day's attack in Seongnam, a car rammed onto a sidewalk before the driver began stabbing people at a shopping mall.

At least two people are in life-threatening conditions, and eight others are being treated for serious injuries. The suspect in that attack is a 22-year-old who is currently being questioned by police. During interviews, the suspect mentioned being stalked but spoke incoherently.

President Yoon Suk Yeol has called for "ultra-strong law enforcement measures to restore faith in public safety" following these incidents, describing the attack in Seongnam as a "terrorist attack on innocent citizens."

The President has also called for closer monitoring of social media to detect threats and more law enforcement presence for prevention. The National Police Agency has declared a "special surveillance period," during which there will be increased patrols and stop-and-search activities to guard against individuals suspected of carrying weapons or acting abnormally.

Police officers have also been instructed to actively use firearms or taser guns to suppress suspects during violent crimes. These series of attacks are alarming for South Korea, as mass-stabbing cases involving random targets are rare in the country.

While the country tightly controls gun possession, there are no meaningful restrictions on knives, making them easily accessible for such attacks. Authorities are now focused on investigating the motives behind these incidents and implementing stricter security measures to ensure public safety.
