A Sikh man has been charged with possession of a knife and stabbing two men during India's Independence Day celebrations in Southall, London. The incident occurred during a traditional August 15 celebration in Southall Broadway, where clashes broke out between pro-Khalistan activists and a large group of young Indian-origin men waving the tricolour. Video footage on social media shows the confrontations between individuals carrying Khalistani flags and those holding the Indian flag.

The Metropolitan Police responded to an altercation, finding two men in their 30s with knife injuries. Both men were admitted to the hospital but have since been discharged.

Gurpreet Singh, a 25-year-old Indian national residing in Ilford, has been charged with attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, threats with a bladed article, and two counts of possession of a bladed article.

Singh appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court and has been remanded in custody to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on September 14th. Another man in his 20s, who was also arrested at the scene, has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Superintendent Sean Lynch has acknowledged the concern caused by the incident and urged people to avoid speculation, emphasizing that fortunately, none of the injured was seriously hurt and there were no fatalities. The investigation is ongoing.
