A Russian missile attack has resulted in the death of two people and extensive damage to buildings in the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia. The attack occurred on Saturday and was confirmed by Anatoliy Kurtiev, secretary of the city council.

According to Mr. Kurtiev, an enemy missile hit an open area, resulting in the fatalities and injury of another woman. Rescue crews were witnessed carrying the victims away in body bags from a wooded area near a railway line in the city center.

The impact of the attack was severe, with men in uniforms examining pieces of shrapnel and standing beside a crater several meters wide. The blast wave also caused significant damage to high-rise buildings, an educational institution, and a supermarket. Residents who witnessed the attack described the incident as unexpected and terrifying.

One 65-year-old woman, identified as Olena, shared her experience of sitting in a parking office booth when the blast occurred. Fortunately, she remained uninjured despite the shattered window around her. Anatoliy Kurtiev further stated that the blast wave had broken windows in 13 high-rise buildings and an educational institution.

To support the affected residents, psychologists and other services have been deployed to provide assistance on the ground. This missile attack adds to the escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with both countries engaged in a long-standing conflict.

As tensions continue to grow, there are concerns about the possibility of further escalations and the impact it may have on the region. The international community, including NATO and European leaders, closely monitors the situation, urging restraint and diplomatic solutions to de-escalate the conflict.
