Russia's Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, has expressed full support for India's aspiration to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Speaking at a public event in New Delhi, the ambassador highlighted the in-depth discussions on this matter between the foreign ministers of both countries in December. Ambassador Alipov emphasized India's balanced and independent approach to global issues as a key reason for Russia's backing of its bid for permanent UN Security Council membership.
He also noted the opportunities presented by India's concurrent presidencies in the G20 and the SCO in 2023 for promoting agendas related to economic stability, Sustainable Development Goals, digital and energy transitions, and collaboration within the BRICS format. The ambassador underscored the high level of dialogue between Russia and India, including meetings between the heads of security councils and foreign ministers, which reflect the significance of their engagement in the current geopolitical landscape. He also pointed to the shared commitment to preserving the unbiased character of multilateral institutions and advocating for genuine democracy in international affairs based on the United Nations and international law.
Furthermore, the ambassador highlighted the recent visit of India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to Moscow, during which extensive discussions took place on a wide range of global issues, economic cooperation, military-technical collaboration, and the resumption of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between India and the Eurasian Economic Union. Ambassador Alipov concluded by characterizing Russia as India's valued and time-tested partner, emphasizing the significant developments in various sectors, including trade, investment, and military-technical cooperation as a reflection of the importance that India attributes to its relationship with Moscow.
