Rejani Raveendran, a 40-year-old college student originally from India, has made history by becoming the first Republican candidate to challenge Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin in the state of Wisconsin.

Raveendran, who chairs the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point College Republicans, officially launched her bid against Baldwin in Portage County. Raveendran's entry into the race comes with just under a year to go until the primary, making her the first Republican Senate candidate in Wisconsin.

Her decision to run for office was inspired by her recent trip to Washington, where she witnessed the dominance of "polished politicians" and recognized the need for new faces and fresh ideas in the political system.

Unlike many career politicians, Raveendran is a regular person who deeply understands the challenges faced by everyday citizens. Having immigrated to the United States in 2011, Raveendran initially worked as a nurse and midwife in India before settling in California and eventually moving to Wisconsin in 2017. She became a US citizen in 2015, meeting the minimum requirement of being a citizen for nine years in 2024 to become a Senator.

During her campaign, Raveendran plans to prioritize securing the border, combatting the illicit drug trade, and advocating for "medical freedom." Her stance against vaccine mandates reflects her commitment to individual choice and personal liberties. Raveendran's campaign for Senate brings a fresh perspective and a dedication to representing the interests of ordinary people.

The announcement of Raveendran's candidacy has already brought excitement and anticipation to the race. Notably, Republican US Representative Tom Tiffany has decided not to run against Baldwin, while Gallagher, Republicans' top choice candidate, has also declined to enter the race. Raveendran's entry as a Republican candidate promises to bring new energy and ideas to the political landscape in Wisconsin.
