Over 6,000 people and 455 animals have been evacuated from various parts of Punjab in Pakistan in the past 24 hours due to flooding caused by strong water currents from the Sutlej River. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that Ganda Singh Wala, located along Sulemanki Headworks, is facing medium-level floods. The districts currently at risk include Kasur, Okara, Bahawalnagar, Pakpattan, and Vehari.

Rescue operations have been carried out in multiple districts, with 254 boats and over 1,000 rescuers deployed to the affected regions. From July 9 to August 27, a total of 112,137 people have been evacuated, and 151,300 individuals have been moved to safer locations. The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has established 95 medical camps and 178 relief camps across the province, providing medical facilities and support to affected areas.

The PDMA has also provided emergency transportation and cooked food to the affected population. Relief efforts will continue until the floodwaters subside. The floods are believed to be a result of water release from India, and a fresh wet spell is predicted to begin on September 2.
