Prison Break in Chaman, Pakistan
x

Last week, a prison break occurred in the southwestern province of Balochistan, Pakistan, which has now left police searching for 13 inmates. The dramatic escape began when seventeen prisoners, all awaiting trial for crimes such as murder, robbery, and drug possession, attacked the guards during morning prayers at Chaman district jail.

The inmates were able to take guns from two of the officers on duty, resulting in a clash that left three officers injured. The police retaliated and killed one of the inmates, while two were injured and another was taken into custody. The remaining thirteen are still on the run.

The prison is located in Taj Road, about three kilometers from the Afghan border, prompting speculation that the inmates may have escaped into Afghanistan. However, the district officer, Muhammad Naeem Achakzai, has said that police are patrolling the border areas. He also suggested that the prisoners had taken advantage of the fact that fewer officers were present in the jail due to the Eid holiday.

In light of the incident, the Chaman police have suspended ten officials, including three police officers who were on duty at the jail. An investigation into the prison break is now underway, with police hoping to apprehend the remaining fugitives and bring them to justice. This situation is a reminder of the importance of security measures, especially in prisons. It is essential that guards are properly trained and equipped to handle any situation, and that prisons are adequately staffed to prevent such escapes.
