Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, has met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York to discuss the urgent need for accelerated efforts in combating climate change and protecting the environment. The meeting, held at the United Nations headquarters, focused on strategies to enhance the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and explore financing options for development. The visit coincided with the annual high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly, where world leaders gathered to discuss pressing global issues.

Antonio Guterres is also set to host a climate ambition summit later in the week, emphasizing the need for decisive action in addressing climate change. In addition to his discussions at the United Nations, Prince William is currently in New York for the Earthshot Prize Innovation summit. The Earthshot Prize, launched by the Duke of Cambridge in 2020, aims to find innovative solutions to major environmental challenges. During the summit, Prince William will unveil this year's finalists for the award.

Reflecting on the historical significance of the United Nations, Prince William expressed confidence in the ability of his generation to take bold actions towards a healthier and more sustainable world. He highlighted the importance of collaboration and unity in addressing shared global challenges. During his visit, Prince William will also host a gathering of business leaders, climate activists, and policymakers.

Among the notable attendees will be UN Special Climate Envoy Michael Bloomberg, former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. This trip marks Prince William's first visit to New York since 2014, when he last visited Boston for the Earthshot Prize award ceremony. He has been actively engaged in raising awareness about environmental issues and is committed to finding practical solutions to address them.
