Prince William arrived in Singapore on Sunday for the annual Earthshot Prize awards, the first to be held in Asia. The Earthshot Prize aims to support environmental innovators with solutions to battle climate change. Upon his arrival, Prince William was greeted by cheering crowds and took part in a walkabout, shaking hands and taking selfies. Singapore's bold vision to be a leader for environmental innovation sets the standard for others to follow. During his visit, Prince William will also meet with Singaporean officials and attend the United for Wildlife global summit.

The winners of the Earthshot Prize will receive one million pounds to help scale up their projects. Five winners will be named at the award ceremony on Tuesday. Fifteen finalists representing six continents were selected from 1,300 nominees this year. The winners are from five categories: nature protection, clean air, ocean revival, waste elimination, and climate change. The winners' projects will receive funding to expand their reach and make a greater impact. The inaugural Earthshot Prize ceremony was held in London in 2021, followed by Boston last year.

The name of the prize is inspired by President John F. Kennedy's 1962 "moonshot speech," which challenged Americans to reach the moon by the end of the decade. Prince William and his partners have set a similar goal of finding solutions to pressing environmental problems by 2030. During his visit, Prince William will meet with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. He will also try his hand at dragon boating, a popular sport in Singapore. Prince William's office has stated that Singapore was chosen to host this year's awards ceremony because of its role as a hub for innovation in Southeast Asia.

In addition to the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony, Prince William will also attend the United for Wildlife global summit. The summit will bring together representatives from law enforcement agencies, conservation groups, and corporations to combat the trade in illegal wildlife products, estimated at $20 billion annually. The fight against illegal wildlife trade is a crucial aspect of protecting and restoring the planet's biodiversity. Overall, Prince William's visit to Singapore highlights the importance of finding innovative solutions to climate change and environmental challenges. The Earthshot Prize not only recognizes and supports environmental innovators but also inspires others to take action and contribute to a more sustainable future.
