Thailand's Pita Limjaroenrat remains determined despite his loss in a parliamentary vote for the position of prime minister, falling short of the required threshold by 51 votes.

The 42-year-old affirmed on Thursday that his party would regroup and devise new strategies to gather the necessary support for the upcoming vote, anticipated to take place next week.

Pita serves as the leader of the progressive Move Forward Party, which secured the highest number of votes in Thailand's general election held on May 14.

The result of the parliamentary vote means Thailand will remain in limbo for now. Mr Pita's supporters may be disappointed but they can take comfort from the fact that the pro-democracy camp managed to secure a majority in the lower house and is now a force to be reckoned with.
