Pakistan's PM Slams India's Supreme Court Decision as Politically Motivated, Reaffirms Support for Kashmir

In a forceful statement, Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar accused India's Supreme Court of delivering a politically motivated verdict in support of the abrogation of Article 370. Kakar reiterated his country's unwavering support for the people of Kashmir, emphasizing the deep bond between Pakistan and the troubled region. The controversial move to revoke Article 370, which had granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, was recently upheld by India's highest court. Kakar questioned the legitimacy of this decision, asserting that it aimed to legitimize India's unilateral actions in August 2019.
Kakar's address to the Legislative Assembly of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) underscored the significance of the Kashmir issue for Pakistan's foreign policy. He stressed that the entire Pakistani leadership, cutting across political lines, unitedly stood in support of the Kashmiris' right to self-determination. While Pakistan has expressed its desire for friendly relations with India, Kakar lamented the deterioration in bilateral ties due to India's actions. He argued that India's unilateral measures of August 5, 2019, had compromised the possibility of good neighborly relations, placing the burden on India to rectify the situation.
Kashmir, often referred to as Pakistan's "jugular vein," remains an unsettled agenda within the United Nations, with Security Council resolutions yet to be implemented. Kakar called attention to the enduring dispute and emphasized the need for international attention and action.
