Pakistan Election Commission Receives Over 28,000 Nomination Papers for Upcoming General Election

The Pakistan Election Commission (ECP) has reported that a total of 28,626 nomination papers were submitted by candidates interested in contesting the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8, 2024. This includes 7,242 men and 471 women filing nomination papers for national assembly seats, and 17,744 and 802 nominations for provincial assemblies. The ECP is currently in the process of analyzing the nomination papers, which is set to conclude on December 30. The electoral body will issue the list of candidates on January 11, with candidates allowed to withdraw until January 12 before the ECP allots electoral symbols on January 13.
The list includes a total of 459 and 1,365 nomination papers for reserved seats in the national and provincial legislatures. The nominations are distributed across various provinces, with Sindh receiving 6,498 nominations, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa obtaining 5,278, Balochistan acquiring 2,669, and Punjab obtaining 13,823 nominations. The upcoming elections are scheduled for February 8, and the ECP has also provided more time for foreign observers to submit their applications to monitor the polls.
