Researchers in the US have made a significant breakthrough in the treatment of cancer with the development of a new drug named AOH1996.

The drug has shown promise in destroying solid tumors and is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical trials at City of Hope Hospital in California.

The drug's unique name pays tribute to Anna Olivia Healey, a young girl who tragically lost her life to neuroblastoma, a rare form of children's cancer.

Dr. Linda Malkas, a professor at the hospital, was inspired to name the drug after meeting Anna's father and receiving a generous donation towards her research.

AOH1996 targets a mutated form of a protein called PCNA, which is found specifically in cancer cells, making it a potential treatment for various types of cancer including breast, prostate, brain, ovarian, cervical, skin, and lung cancers.
