A 22-year-old software engineer from New York who secured a job at Netflix in California has mysteriously vanished after taking an Uber. Yohanes Kidane was last seen on security camera leaving his apartment building in downtown San Jose. He boarded a vehicle with an Uber sticker, according to his family.

His brother, Yosief, revealed that two colleagues saw him and had a conversation with him, during which he mentioned that he was heading to San Francisco, possibly to meet a friend. The last footage shows him getting into a black Toyota Camry.

It was Kidane's second week at Netflix after moving to the Bay Area in July. Further investigation revealed that Kidane's phone, wallet, and backpack were found near the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center in San Francisco. A passerby in San Rafael noticed the items on a grassy hill, and they were subsequently reported to the police.

The wallet, which contained $30, identification cards, and other personal items, was untouched. The backpack, containing two laptops and personal documents, was discovered the following day closer to the bridge. Kidane's family and friends, devastated by his disappearance, have launched a GoFundMe campaign to fund their search efforts.

They have already raised over half of their $60,000 goal. Kidane's mother, Mehret Hana Beyene, urgently pleaded for her son's safe return, describing him as a good man with a bright future and a loving son. Prior to his disappearance, Kidane had shared a concerning experience with a suspicious Uber ride. His former college roommate, Austin Farmer, disclosed that the Uber driver insisted on taking Kidane to a supposedly safer location in Oakland instead of his intended destination.

Although Kidane eventually made it back to his apartment, Farmer found the incident suspicious. During the ride, Kidane texted Farmer expressing his potential trouble, and the driver reportedly asked him to cancel the extra payment. As a result, Kidane vowed to never use Uber alone in San Francisco again.
