Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underwent successful surgery to implant a pacemaker on Sunday at Sheba Medical Center.

The surgery comes as the government prepares to debate a controversial judicial overhaul bill, which has sparked widespread protests in the country. The proposed reforms, supported by Netanyahu's hard-right government, aim to curb the Supreme Court's powers and have been criticized as a threat to Israel's democracy.

Critics argue that the reforms are an attempt by Netanyahu to avoid possible judgments against him in his ongoing corruption trial. The final vote on the bill is scheduled for Monday.

The protests have drawn support from various political and social groups, including both the left and the right, secular and religious organizations, peace activists, military reservists, and workers in the technology sector.

More than 1,100 air force reservists have also threatened to suspend their volunteer service if the reforms become law. The international community, including US President Joe Biden, has also expressed concerns about the proposed changes. Despite the controversy, Netanyahu said he is still trying to reach an agreement with the opposition on the reform bill.
