In a Central Committee meeting of Nepal's ruling Maoist party, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' faced criticism and accusations of corruption and nepotism from party members. Some members raised questions about the appointment of Prachanda's daughter as his aide and the appointment of a close relative as secretary to the Home Minister.

Another member demanded an investigation into the properties of Prachanda and senior leaders who have held positions in the government. The Prime Minister initially tried to defend himself but eventually took a conciliatory tone.

The meeting, which was supposed to take place twice a year, was being held for the first time in 14 months, contributing to the tense atmosphere. The anger and criticism seemed to be primarily directed at Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, who has been implicated in corruption scandals.

Despite the internal turmoil, the government has promised to hold accountable anyone found guilty of corruption. The entire proceedings of the meeting were initially supposed to be telecast live, but this decision was later cancelled.
