Nepali Congress lawmaker Sunil Sharma was arrested on Thursday for possessing a fake academic certificate and using it for higher studies. Sharma, a member of the House of Representatives, allegedly purchased a fake higher secondary academic degree from Bihar and used it to pursue further education in China.

The arrest of Sharma, who is associated with the Shekhar Koirala camp in the Nepali Congress, has caused ripples in Nepal's ruling coalition. Last week, Sharma, who also owns medical colleges and private hospitals, demanded the resignation of the Home Minister and Finance Minister over the smuggling of 100 kg of gold, which was seized in a raid in July.

This recent arrest adds to the growing controversy surrounding the lawmaker. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police apprehended Sharma in Kathmandu. He has been accused of forging his educational certificates, with his 10 2 certificate being revealed as fake.

The police have informed the Speaker about Sharma's arrest. In related news, four more doctors have also been arrested in connection with the same fake educational certificate case. Dr. Rambabu Yadav, Dr. Ranjit Yadav, Dr. Elina Sah, and Dr. Amit Chaudhary were among those arrested, alongside lawmaker Sharma.

The investigation discovered that Sharma, who owns a medical college, pursued an MBBS degree based on the fake certificate. Sharma was elected to the House of Representatives from Morang-3 in the previous year's elections.

His close ties to the Shekhar Koirala camp within the Nepali Congress make his arrest significant in political circles. These recent developments have put a spotlight on the issue of fake educational certificates and the need for stricter measures to prevent such fraudulent activities.
