Moscow nightclub shut down for 90 days after hosting scandalous celebrity party, sparking conservative backlash. High-profile guests, revealing costumes, and public apologies add to the controversy.
A Moscow nightclub has been ordered to close for 90 days after hosting a raunchy celebrity party that stirred up a conservative backlash in Russia. The event, known as Almost Naked, took place at the Mutabor venue and was attended by high-profile guests and household names dressed in revealing costumes and lingerie. The Lefortovsky District court ruled that the club's owner had breached sanitary and epidemiological requirements, leading to the shutdown. The event clashed with the family-oriented image that Moscow has been trying to portray and sparked calls for investigations from conservative politicians. Celebrity guests such as Eurovision winner Dima Bilan, pop singer Filipp Kirkorov, and journalist and socialite Ksenia Sobchak publicly apologized for their attendance at the party, as did its organizer Anastasia Ivleeva. The Russian rapper Vacio, who was pictured at the event wearing nothing but a strategically-placed sock, was sentenced to 15 days in jail and summoned to a military recruitment center. The event occurred amid a backdrop of increased conservative rhetoric in Russia since the onset of military hostilities in Ukraine, with the Kremlin framing the conflict as a battle against Western values. The closure of the nightclub serves as a stark reminder of the cultural and political tensions present in Russian society.
