The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has been instructed by Law and Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam to investigate claims of racial discrimination and workplace bullying made by an Indian-origin police officer, Uvaraja Gopal, who tragically died recently.

Gopal, 36, was found lying motionless at the foot of an apartment block in the Yishun housing estate and was transported to the hospital, where he later passed away. In a Facebook post, Minister Shanmugam expressed his deepest condolences to Gopal's family and emphasized the seriousness of the officer's allegations.

He stated that he has asked the police to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure accountability. Minister Shanmugam further reiterated the clear policy of non-discrimination and the entitlement of all officers to be treated fairly. The officer's allegations, including the existence of a toxic work culture, were first made in a now-deleted Facebook post.

Screenshots of the post were reposted on Reddit. Gopal also claimed to have sought help but was shunned and turned away. In response, the police released a Facebook post acknowledging the challenges faced by the officer and stating that they had provided various assistance to him.

They assured that they will thoroughly investigate all the issues raised in the Facebook post. The police clarified that they do not suspect foul play in Gopal's death and are currently conducting investigations into the unfortunate incident.

The SPF expressed deep sadness over the passing of their colleague and extended their sincerest condolences to Gopal's family, providing them with support during this difficult time.
