Mid-Air Roller Coaster Nightmare: Visitors Forced to Walk Down 200-Foot Ride at Ohio Amusement Park
Visitors at Ohio's Cedar Point amusement park were forced to walk down a 200-plus-foot roller coaster after it experienced a mechanical issue mid-air. This incident comes shortly after a similar incident in the UK. Cedar Point has had previous roller coaster issues but plans to open a new, record-breaking coaster in 2024.
Visitors at an amusement park in Ohio were forced to walk down a 200-plus-foot roller coaster after it suffered a mechanical issue mid-air. The incident took place at Cedar Point in Sandusky on the Magnum XL-200 roller coaster, which is the Guinness Book of World Records holder for its leading edge height.
The park's Director of Communications stated that this was a standard ride stoppage and a check engine light situation, preventing the roller coaster from being restarted immediately. This incident comes just days after a similar situation occurred in the UK, where eight riders were left stranded at the top of a 72-foot-high rollercoaster. A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the riders stuck at a 90-degree angle and facing skywards.
The riders were eventually rescued and returned to the ground. Cedar Point amusement park has faced previous issues with roller coasters, such as the closure of the Top Thrill Dragster ride after a woman was severely injured. The park has since unveiled a new roller coaster, Top Thrill 2, which will open in 2024 and is described as the world's tallest and fastest triple-launch strata coaster.
