Spanish police in the southern port of Algeciras have made a historic cocaine seizure, discovering 9.5 tonnes of the drug hidden among boxes of bananas in a shipping container from Ecuador. This marks the largest cocaine seizure ever found in a single container in Spain, according to a police statement. The operation dealt a massive blow to one of the world's most significant criminal organizations involved in cocaine distribution, as it targeted major criminal networks in Europe.

The boxes of bananas were marked with over 30 different logos, matching various European criminal rings that were intended to receive the cocaine. However, the police did not disclose the name of the organization or the criminal networks in Europe. The drug was found on August 23rd in a refrigerated container. The criminal organization in Ecuador, which had a vast network for shipping drugs to Spain, used an international banana trading company based in Machala, Ecuador's main banana port, to transport the illicit substances mainly to the ports of Algeciras and Vigo in the northwest. This criminal network was capable of shipping up to 40 containers per month, some of which contained drugs.

-The seizure underscores the ongoing battle against drug trafficking and highlights the Spanish authorities' commitment to dismantling criminal organizations involved in drug distribution. This record-breaking operation sends a strong message to those engaged in illegal drug trade, aiming to disrupt their operations and curb the flow of narcotics into Europe. It also serves as a reminder of the global nature of drug trafficking and the reliance on international cooperation to combat this pervasive issue.
