Maldives and China Solidify Alliance Amidst Diplomatic Row with India

China and the Maldives have reaffirmed their commitment to each other's core interests and mutual support, as Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu concluded his first visit to China on Thursday. Amid a diplomatic row with India, the two sides issued a joint statement expressing firm opposition to external interference in the Maldives' internal affairs. China pledged its support for the Maldives' national sovereignty, independence, and dignity, while the Maldives reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China principle, recognizing only the government of the People's Republic of China.

During their talks, President Muizzu and Chinese President Xi Jinping signed 20 agreements, including cooperation in tourism and an Action Plan for Building a China-Maldives Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership. The two leaders also discussed the implementation of various projects committed to by China, including economic and technical cooperation, infrastructure construction, and assistance for people's livelihood. Muizzu's visit to China, while marked by the diplomatic row with India, signals a deepening of cooperation between the two countries, as they work towards a shared future and stronger partnership.
