External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the Joint Secretary Session of the Senate's External Affairs and Defence Commission in Rome, highlighting the need for a solution to the Israel-Hamas war and the issue of Palestine. While emphasizing that terrorism is unacceptable, Jaishankar urged for stability, cooperation, and dialogue to resolve the conflict. Jaishankar condemned the major act of terrorism on October 7 and expressed concern over the subsequent acts that have plunged the region into turmoil. He stressed the importance of finding a balance between addressing terrorism and addressing the issue of Palestine.

Jaishankar firmly supported the two-state solution and emphasized that dialogue and negotiations are essential in resolving the ongoing crisis. India has consistently advocated for a sovereign, independent, and viable state of Palestine, living side by side in peace with Israel. Despite the horrific terror attack carried out by Hamas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended full solidarity with Israel, condemning the attack. In response to the attack, Israel launched a strong counteroffensive targeting the terror units of Hamas.

The ministry in Gaza reported that over 8,000 people have been killed in the Israeli attacks, leading to a humanitarian crisis. Rights groups have called for increased aid to alleviate the suffering in the region. As the conflict continues to escalate, Jaishankar's remarks underscore the importance of finding a peaceful resolution through dialogue and negotiation. India's stance remains unchanged - a two-state solution is necessary to establish peace and security in the Middle East.
