In a bilateral meeting between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the two diplomats discussed a range of issues, including key outcomes of India's G20 presidency and the creation of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.

The meeting also emphasized the importance of cooperation in defense, space, and clean energy, ahead of the upcoming 2 2 Dialogue between the countries' finance and defense ministers. Notably, the U.S. State Department's readout of the meeting did not mention the ongoing discord between India and Canada over the allegations of Indian government involvement in the killing of a Canadian Khalistani separatist.

While Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed to have received assurances that the U.S. would discuss the issue with India, the lack of public mention of the matter indicates a possible diplomatic approach by the U.S. to not challenge India publicly.

Both India and Canada have reached out to their diplomatic allies, including the U.S., United Kingdom, and Australia, for support in the dispute. The U.S. has called on India to cooperate with Canada's investigation without fully endorsing Trudeau's claims. This meeting between Jaishankar and Blinken has provided insight into the U.S. position and the diplomatic efforts being made to address the rift between two of America's closest allies.
