Jailed Ex-PM Imran Khan Slams President for Election Delay, Alleges Conspiracy to Prolong Imprisonment
Imran Khan expresses frustration with President Alvi for not ensuring timely general elections, citing constitutional powers. Khan believes there is a plot to prolong his imprisonment.
Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed his dissatisfaction with President Arif Alvi for not using his constitutional powers to ensure that general elections were held within 90 days of the dissolution of the National Assembly, according to his sister, Aleema. During a hearing of the Jinnah House attack, Aleema stated that Imran Khan, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was upset that the President only announced a cut-off date for the elections instead of providing a specific date.
This news comes after President Alvi's letter to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) last month, where he suggested a cut-off date for the elections based on Article 48(5) of the Constitution. However, the ECP later announced that the polls would be held in the last week of January 2024, without providing an exact date. Imran Khan, who is currently facing numerous cases, believes that there is a plot to keep him in prison for a longer period.
