Israel's assault on the Gaza Strip has persisted despite mounting international pressure and calls for a halt to the bombing of civilians. The death toll from the attacks has been revised down to around 1,200 by the Israeli government, although there are reports of deadly strikes on hospitals and schools.

The Israeli army has accused Palestinian militant group Hamas of using hospitals as command centers and hideouts, but Hamas denies these allegations. However, the director of the Al-Shifa hospital and the Hamas government blame Israeli forces for the strike on their institution, resulting in the death of 13 people. Additionally, a strike on Gaza City's Al-Buraq school claimed the lives of 50 people.

Gazan health system is described as being on the brink of collapse, with the head of the World Health Organization warning that it has reached a point of no return. The International Committee of the Red Cross also highlights the dire situation, stating that the healthcare system in Gaza is overstretched, running low on supplies, and increasingly unsafe. In response to the ongoing violence, thousands of Palestinians have been forced to flee to the south of the territory, often on foot and with only the belongings they can carry.

Almost two-thirds of Gaza's population, nearly 1.6 million people, have been internally displaced since the beginning of the attacks. Amidst the carnage, the United Nations has called for an end to the violence, emphasizing that razing entire neighborhoods is not a solution and only serves to perpetuate the cycle of violence. French President Emmanuel Macron has also urged Israel to halt the bombing of Gaza civilians, stating that the deaths are causing resentment across the Middle East.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected calls for a ceasefire, asserting that surrendering to Hamas is not an option. However, he emphasizes that Israel does not seek to govern Gaza in the long term, but rather intends to provide a better future for both sides.
