Israeli forces shot and killed two Palestinians, including a 16-year-old, during a raid in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, according to Palestinian health officials. The raid took place in the Jericho area, which has been a site of heavy fighting over the past 16 months.

Israel has been conducting near-nightly raids in the West Bank in response to a series of Palestinian attacks, resulting in a surge of violence and an increase in the death toll. The violence comes amidst a spike in attacks on Palestinians by radical Jewish settlers and continued settlement expansion.

The Israeli-Palestinian violence in the West Bank has reached unprecedented levels, with over 170 Palestinians killed by Israeli fire in 2023 alone. While Israel claims that most of those killed have been militants, there have also been casualties among stone-throwing youths and innocent bystanders.

At the same time, there have been 27 people killed in Palestinian attacks against Israelis during this time. Israel argues that the raids are necessary to dismantle militant networks and prevent future attacks, while the Palestinians see the violence as a response to decades of occupation and settler violence.

In a separate incident, an Israeli court released a Jewish settler accused of involvement in the shooting death of a 19-year-old Palestinian, placing him under house arrest. This decision has raised concerns among Palestinians and human rights groups about Israel's treatment of radical Jewish settlers in the West Bank.

The ongoing violence has also seen an increase in rocket launches from the Gaza Strip into the West Bank. While these rockets have been rudimentary and have caused no significant damage, they represent a growing trend of aggression in the region.

The situation in the West Bank remains highly volatile, with tensions rising due to the combination of Israeli raids, settler violence, and Palestinian attacks. The international community has called for restraint and a resumption of peace talks to address the root causes of the conflict. As the violence continues, the death toll rises, leaving both Israelis and Palestinians in a state of fear and uncertainty.
