Israeli Army Uncovers Massive Hamas Attack Tunnel Network Near Key Border Crossing
x

The Israeli Army has discovered the largest Hamas attack tunnel yet, just a short distance from a key border crossing in the Gaza Strip. The tunnel, spanning over four kilometers, was found to be sophisticated in design, with a width allowing for vehicles to pass through. The IDF released footage showing Hamas engineers constructing the tunnel and the materials used in its construction, including tunnel-boring machines that had been smuggled into the Strip. The tunnel cost millions of dollars and took years to construct, with the project led by Mohamed Yahya, brother of Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, who is believed to have masterminded recent attacks.

The underground passage was part of a network that reached within 400 meters of the Erez border crossing, where Palestinians enter Israel for work and medical care. The tunnels were found to contain a communication network, electricity, plumbing, and ventilation, reinforcing its purpose for attacks against Israel. The discovery has prompted the IDF to continue the systematic dismantling of Hamas infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. Reports stated that the army was considering flooding the tunnels with seawater to further destroy the network.

The IDF's discovery of the extensive tunnel system sheds light on the extensive resources Hamas has invested in the project, underscoring the militant group's priorities in attacking Israel over supporting the people of Gaza. It is estimated that Hamas has made use of over 1,300 tunnels stretching over 310 miles, with hundreds already destroyed by Israeli forces. The uncovering of the tunnel network has been a victory for the Israeli military as it continues its mission to erode the capabilities of Hamas and protect the Israeli people from attacks. With the ongoing ground offensive in the Gaza Strip, the discovery of the tunnel network provides a significant advantage in dismantling Hamas infrastructure.
