Israel President Isaac Herzog met with the ambassadors of Thailand, the Philippines, Tanzania, and Nepal on Thursday to address the tragic events that took place during Hamas's terror invasion of southwestern Israel on October 7. The ambassadors represented countries whose citizens were killed, taken hostage, or remain missing as a result of this attack. During the meeting, President Herzog expressed his condolences and emphasized the valuable contribution that citizens from these nations make to Israeli society and industry. Thailand's Ambassador to Israel, Pannabha Chandraramya, revealed that 23 Thai citizens were killed, and four remain in the hospital.
Additionally, 29 Thai citizens are still in Hamas's captivity. Ambassador Chandraramya expressed her concerns and stated that the well-being of Thai people in Israel, as well as the fate of those abducted, are of utmost importance to Thailand. The Philippines, Nepal, and Tanzania also suffered losses, with four nationals from each country killed and two Tanzanian nationals still missing. President Herzog acknowledged that many of the victims were foreign workers who came to Israel to fulfill various roles such as agricultural workers, students promoting their countries' economies, and individuals providing care for the elderly and those with special needs.
He condemned Hamas's indiscriminate terror campaign that targets individuals regardless of race or religion. In a statement, President Herzog expressed his sorrow and solidarity with the affected nations, promising that Israel will spare no efforts to ensure the safe return of the hostages. He was reassured to learn that many citizens from these nations residing in Israel are determined to stay and continue their valuable work despite the tragic events. Meanwhile, the Israel Defence Forces provided an update on the situation. They reported that as of Friday, there are 242 hostages, including 30 children, in Gaza.
Since October 7, Israel has faced the launch of 8,000 rockets, averaging over 300 rockets daily. More than 250,000 Israelis have been evacuated from their homes due to the ongoing attacks. The President's meeting with the ambassadors highlighted the importance of international cooperation and solidarity in facing such tragic incidents. The State of Israel, along with the international community, remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens impacted by acts of terrorism.
