Rescuers from multiple European countries have gathered in Turkey to save an American researcher who became trapped almost 1,000 meters (3,000 feet) below the entrance of the Morca cave after experiencing stomach bleeding. Mark Dickey, a highly trained caver and cave researcher, fell ill during an expedition in the Taurus Mountains. The rescue operation is expected to last several weeks due to the narrow passages within the cave.

While Dickey's condition has stabilized, he will require significant assistance to exit the cave. The operation involves more than 170 people, including doctors and experienced cavers from Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Poland, and Turkey. Various challenges, such as widening the narrow passages, navigating through mud and water, and dealing with low temperatures, are expected during the rescue effort. The rescue teams hope to begin the extraction process over the weekend, with multiple bivouac points being established to rest along the way. The Hungarian Cave Rescue Service was the first to arrive at Dickey's location and provided emergency blood transfusions.
